—————-

Today, in America and several other countries, it is “Mother’s Day”.  I was blessed to spend the day with my mom. I am thankful for the love she has given me over the years, for the nurture and affection, and most of all for teaching me God’s Word from a very young age. I am thankful for the prayer she “wished” for me from the time she learned I was inside her womb. She simply “wished me Jesus”.  What more could I have asked for?  I honored her with a lovely golden spectrum begonia hanging basket, lunch, and a card today. I thanked her for the sacrifices she made throughout my childhood for my good. A few of the things that always made our time special when I was younger were; Bible story time and prayer time each night, the comforting smell of her canning fresh -from -the -garden tomatoes and tomato juice as well as green beans and more, cooking meals every day for our family, handing her clothes pins to hang our laundry on the line in the summer time, going for walks together, playing with the homemade paper dolls that she made for me, “mothering” my own baby dolls and having her pretend she was “Grandma”.  My mom never went to work and placed me in a day care or pre-school when I was young and I am very thankful. She always wanted to be the one who took care of me.  Mother, I pray your day was restful and honorable. I pray restoration and health for you,  and that one day, in God’s most perfect time, you will get to enjoy the benefits of being a “real” Grandma. :)

Did you know that we can honor our mothers (and fathers, and all of our families) every day?  It is by living in the perfect will of God…obeying His Word, heeding His call and following His lead. My prayer is that when Mother thinks of me, she is honored simply because I have chosen to do what God has called me to, to strive to obey Him and live the dream He dreamed for me, today and tomorrow . . . whatever that may turn out to be.

I also wanted to take a moment to honor some other special mothers in my life, dear sisters in the Lord who have “given up their rights” to a “career” and a “life of their own” as the world knows it, to simply obey God, and be a keeper at home, a loving and honorable wife to their husband, and a joyful mother of a house full of children that they educate and train in the ways of the Lord.  These dear friends know who they are. May you all be blessed in a special way today!

Sadly, the world and much of the Church take the call of Christian motherhood so lightly. They often look down on mothers of many children.  They have lost sight of God’s own true Word;

Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah; And the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth.  Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be put to shame, When they speak with their enemies in the gate. Psalm 127:3-5

I especially enjoy encouraging mothers of many. I was blessed to be able to help with 3 “showers of blessings” since March. I believe every baby God gives should be celebrated, and I love to help organize and shower moms and families with sweet baby things they may need.

Speaking of babies, I must announce . . .

*A special CONGRATULATIONS to the Moore Family on the birth of their precious new son, Dabney Nehemiah, their 10th reward born in April! He is BEAUTIFUL!

 * A special CONGRATULATIONS to the Childress Family on the birth of their brand new baby daughter, Naomi, their 5th little princess. :) What a special Mother’s Day present she was!

In closing, I’d like to encourage all you dear young ladies to honor your mothers today. Thank them for all the wonderful things they have done for you and the ways they’ve blessed you. But, I urge you to continue to honor your mothers and fathers every day by living the life God has called you to live as His beautiful woman, priced “above rubies”. Remember that when you obey God, you honor the parents that biologically gave you life. Stay true to the convictions He has breathed within you. As you wait for Him to move you on into the next season of your life, don’t waste a second to be a mother right now! All women have the natural, God-given ability to nurture whether they ever bear a child in the natural! This is how God created us! I’m so blessed and thankful for all the beatutiful opportunities God has given me to nurture and love and “mother” the precious little children of friends and family over the years. Some of the sweetest memories of my life have been made by “mothering” children while moms and dads have gone on weekend get-aways or “dates”. It is because I was fulfilling a call God created me for! Do you have younger siblings? Friends in Christ who may need an occasional nurturer (not “sitter”) to watch over their little darlings for a bit? Don’t hesitate to dive at these opportunities. You’ll be amazed at how naturally it comes to you.
May you rejoice in the femininity that God created you for today, and may you never think you must wait until you have gotten married and have babies of your own before you can be a “mother”. :)

Resting in the Potter's Hand

May 5th, 2009

“Can I not, O house of Israel, deal with you as this potter does?” declares the LORD. “Behold, like the clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand…”

Jeremiah 18:6

I have come to find great comfort and delight in being a ball of clay in the hands of my Holy Father God. In the early days of my walk with Christ, I would thrash and flinch with every molding touch. Today, I cannot think of a safer place to be- in the hands of my Creator, being formed into exactly what He desires for me to be. I have also learned that when we stop resisting the indentations of  His fingers and stop trying to hide from the Potter’s tools, and just REST in His will and the work He is performing, that great peace and contentment come, and we find ourselves more satisfied in Jesus than we thought we could ever be. With each new level of abandon, comes new joy. Oh, what a beautiful, heaven-on-earth place to be, to dwell, to LIVE.

Life has been especially hectic the past few weeks. My mom has been sick a few times. My dad has been in and out of the hospital to get blood transfusions. His outward man is wasting away, but his inner man is growing soft, pliable, and child-like. He is confessing Jesus, very faintly and weakly. His smiles are sweeter than ever before, and his eyes have the wonder and glee of a baby. I am so humbly thankful to my Abba Who has proven faithful once again! I mean, honestly, could I ever think of one time He has NOT been faithful?! No, not once! Never! To be unfaithful would make Him not Himself.

Just the other day, as I thought of how God uses every circumstance, every life event, every little detail of our lives to mold us into that beautiful sculpture that resembles His own countenance, I heard the most beautiful song. It talked of God not only being a Potter, but an Artist, and using the “colors of our lives” to make us into the person He meant for us to be in the beginning, to have our whole heart, totally abandoned to none else but our Lord, our Master, our Husband. Every moment of waiting in the dessert with no sign of rain has a purpose. Every second spent in loneliness will yield a harvest for His glory. Every tongue that persecutes, every fiery trial, every quiet season when it seems He is not “talking” yields a harvest of bountiful fruit that makes us what He purposed us to be. He is the 4th man standing in your furnace, dear sister, if you are in one right now. He always shows up whether you can see or hear Him or not. He is WITH you, and He will not relent until He has ALL of you. He is jealous for your love!

Below, are the lyrics to this beautiful worship song by Julie Meyer called, “Paint Your Picture”.

Won’t you ask Abba to paint His picture, mold His sculpture exactly as He wishes, using YOU as the ball of clay or the “paint brush”? He has the plan, the map, the blue print. Isn’t it such an amazing delight to know you are a part of it?

Pick me up like a paint brush, God
Dip it in the colors of my life
Paint Your picture, Father
Fashion a heart that is wholly Yours

And take Your fingers, God…
Master Potter, come mold the clay
Tell Your story as You mold me
Fashion a heart that is wholly Yours

And write Your Name, write Your Name in the clay…
And sign Your Name, sign Your Name on the picture…

Take all I am
Take all I have
I am Yours
Forever
Forever….

Take all I am
Take all I have
I am Yours forever…
and ever…

Take all I am
Take all I have
For I am Yours
Forever and ever…

So, come write Your Name, write Your Name in the clay
Come sign Your Name, sign Your Name on the picture.
